國軍F-104的總架數

在此向讀者致歉,當年出書時將國軍接收F-104的總架數計算錯誤,總架數應該是247架。以下是用機號來計算:

F-104運交進度













忘了是哪位朋友給的美國解密文件寫著,在1960年10月最後一週,4架計畫中要運交的F-104B雙座機都已運交,所以這應該是CCK基地3大隊8中隊的4101到4104。再來寫著到1961年12月31日,所有計畫中的26架飛機已經運交16架,扣除上面4架雙座機,這代表單座機已經運交12架。按照常理推斷,那就是4201到4212已經運到。

當時美國計畫的編制看來一個F-104中隊共有22架單座機,所以後來第二個接收的F-104A中隊(41中隊)也是編制22架單座機,亦即4241到4262。

P.161  F-104A: the SEA camouflage was introduced with the 2 nd batch of F-104A. F-104D: in order to increase the visibility for two-seater trainers, the tip tanks were painted in fluorescence red.  TF-104G: RoCAF followed the USAF to replace the SEA camouflage with the air superiority gray scheme. In the beginning it is one-tone gray, later appears the two-tone gray. The area of antiglare was smaller.   

P.162  F-104B: in the early days, the F-104s were in their original bare metal scheme.  F-104A: the first batch of F-104A were in bare metal scheme. In late period, a deformed insignia of 8 th TFS was painted in the fin.  F-104G: the bare metal scheme of G model was later replaced with ADC gray scheme, but the tailpipe was still unpainted. 4347 claimed one MiG-17 on Jan.13,1967. A red star was painted under the windshield.   

P.163  RF-104G: the type was introduced with the bare metal scheme. The F-104G and RF-104G have a deice equipment in black in the front of intake.  RF-104G: the paint scheme of the RF changed to ADC gray, then to SEA camouflage. The camera changed to KS-125 system, so the windows reduced from 3 to 1.  RF-104G: The air superiority gray scheme was also applied to RF. In order to carry the LOROP camera, the TACAN aerial was moved backward.     

P.166  4197 carried TDU-11/B target towing equipment.  The ex Luftwaffe F-104 were painted in SEA camouflage in the beginning, then changed to air superiority gray scheme.

P.167  The ex Luftwaffe F-104 was introduced under the Project Ali Mountain No. 8. In the beginning they used Red Dog Launcher in wingtip, but the underwing tank will reduce the maneuverability, so the missiles were carried under belly later. (center) the group insignia was painted in late service period. (bottom) The ex RDAF F-104 was introduced under the Project Ali Mountain No. 10. The radar had some differences with the previous one.

2005.12.5. Updates of my F-104 book

In my book I try to find the fate of EVERY RoCAF F-104, but there are still some blanks. Besides, new info keeps coming out, so I will put those info in this page. New info is always welcomed.

18 March 2000      TF-104G 4196 is found displayed at Conscription Park (役政公園)in Keelung(please see Photo section).

March 2000       RF-104G 4398 is found displayed at a park near Hsinchu AFB.

15 April 2000         RF-104G 4371 is found displayed at a park in Salu.

29 April 2000         RF-104G 4400, TF-104G 4193 and F-104A 4253 are still preserved at CCK AFB, waiting for their final destination.

12 May 2000          It is said that F-104G 4417 and F-104J 4505(must be a fake one!) are now available for exchanging aircrafts from foreign countries. Therefore 4417 might not go to Chengkunglin Base (成功嶺) as previously planned and the fake 4505 might be still preserved in the cave of Chia-shan (佳山)AFB.

11 June 2000        F-104G 4422 is found preserved at Hsinchu AFB.

21 June 2000        A LOROP nose is found displayed at the hanger which used to be the home for 12th TRS. It is not known if the camera is still inside the nose.

26 June 2000        TF-104G 4177 is still at the Air Force Technical School, but is moved away from the engine operation training hanger and  becomes a gateguard now.      4177已自機校試車棚廠移至校園陳列 

8 Aug. 2000         I am told that  one day F-104G  4306  was under 15 min. alert and hit by several 20mm training shells from another F-104G under armament testing at alert hanger in CCK. Damage beyond repair.    今日聽說 4306當年CCK擔任15分鐘警戒機,另一架擔任5分鐘警戒的F-104G於飛彈電路測試時,開關仍位於機砲位置,誤射20餘發訓練砲彈,擊中4306腰部,無法修復,於一指部報廢

3 Apr. 2001          TF-104G 4193 was originally planned to be displayed at a park in Chichi, Nantou County. After the big earthquake in 1999, the project was cancelled. In early 2001,  it was found displayed at 823 Campaign Memorial Park in Taichung City, with the 48th Sq. insignia painted on tailfin. This is a temperate marking only for the F-104 retirement ceremony.   TF-104G 4193 在九二一地震前原先預定陳列於南投集集,但於九十年初陳列於台中市八二三紀念公園.機身仍保留除役典禮之48中隊塗裝(台中飛行園模型店及Chris提供)

2009.10.7. 中山大學F-104J陳列處遺跡

 













中山大學理工大樓的東側曾經陳列一架F-104J 4515號機,之前聽說已經移往他處。此次趁著出差之便,前往探查,果然不見蹤影,只留下地上三個固定機輪的水泥樁,真個是「戰機已移他處去,此地空餘理工樓」,台灣的航空考古遺址又多了一處。

我國F-104飛行時數最高紀錄保持人

我在拙著(F-104)中提到,我國F-104飛行時數最高紀錄保持人是孫國安將軍,但是後來發現,真正時數最高的應該是黃東榮教官,他雖然正式紀錄是兩千九百九十幾小時,但是實際時數可能高過三千五百小時.

黃教官熱愛飛行,同事稱他為飛行棍子,年輕同事要一百小時才能結婚,他就把自己的飛行時數給同事,聯隊長官每月的熟飛時數常常也叫他代飛.在F-104除役典禮那天,郭汝霖將軍當著幾人面前指出黃東榮才是飛F-104最多的人.而且有意思的是當天空軍向遠東航空租了一架MD載送貴賓飛到CCK,正駕駛就是黃教官,讓他多年後再度有機會降落在CCK的跑道.

黃教官當年為讒言所害,提早離開空軍,在退役之前他向某位長官提出希望能夠飛一趟TF(雙座),將時數湊滿三千小時,結果那位長官說你都要退伍了,還飛行幹什麼?後來這位長官得了癌症躺在醫院,黃教官不計前嫌去看他,這位長官這時後悔了,向黃道歉. 俗話說人在衙門好修行,事後再來後悔已經來不及了.

這幾年接觸一些空軍老教官,聽了一些故事,覺得空軍也就是一個小社會, 裡面什麼樣的人都有,有敦厚老實人,當然也有奸佞小人或是心胸狹小之徒. 希望空軍的機制能夠讓正派的人有機會出頭,不要造成反淘汰,否則不只空軍不幸, 更是國家的不幸! 

F-104的防低飛號碼(buzz number)

有朋友問到,如果F-104G 4301機身漆上FG-號碼時是否應該就是FG-250,我的答案是:是也不是。這個FG-250稱為buzz number,是美軍在二戰之後漆在軍機機身上的識別號碼,除了做為空中機號識別之外,主要是希望能夠讓那些低空高速衝到人口密集地區的調皮飛行員容易被抓到,所以我把它翻成防低飛號碼。

 

防低飛號碼的第一個字母是功能,F代表戰鬥機(fighter),第二個字母是機種,F-104被分配到G。接著是短槓,後面接美軍序號的後三碼。以4301的例子來說,序號是62-12250,所以她的buzz number理論上應該是FG-250。但問題是我查了蒐集到的照片,發現國軍F-104G有出現防低飛號碼者主要集中在機號433X434X的飛機,而這些號碼的飛機都不是Lockheed原廠生產,而是由Canadair廠所生產者(43324358)。在4332之前所有原廠的F-104G4358之後的F-104G都沒有出現過防低飛號碼,所以我有一個大膽的假設: F-104G只有Canadair這批飛機才有防低飛號碼,後來可能是為了統一塗裝,在擇要檢修(IRAN)之後重新噴漆時就跟先前的G型機採用同樣的塗裝,所以在國軍出現的時間並不長。

 

以上就是我認為4301應該從來沒有漆過防低飛號碼FG-250的原因,但是只要有人提出43014331或是4359及以上的機號中出現有防低飛號碼的照片,這個理論就有了反證,也就是不成立了。

國軍也有其他幾種機種在剛引進時機身上還漆有防低飛號碼,例如T-33TR-XXXF-84FS-XXXF-100FW-XXX,但是沒多久就不再出現在機身上。

紀念晏仲華教官

 




臉友李安有一位未曾見面的外公晏仲華,承蒙她寄給我她外公的照片,看著他年輕英挺的照片,不免感嘆這麼優秀的菁英,竟然才37歲就英年早逝,為國捐軀。

晏仲華是官校22期畢業,在這三張照片中,第一及第三張都是在印度臘河(現為巴基斯坦)機場受訓時拍攝。他下部隊後一直在第3大隊服役,最後升到第8中隊中隊長。當時第8中隊是全空軍第一個接收F-104的中隊,所有隊員都是嚴格挑選而來,晏仲華能夠做為這支菁英隊伍的指揮官,本身的本職學能必然是非常傑出,才能擔負這個重責大任。

民國50年5月5日,晏仲華中校以F-104B 4102號機帶飛第8中隊即將完訓的隊員于鴻勛上尉,在降落清泉崗基地時,由於左右襟翼放下的角度不同,飛機翻滾,改正不及,於北跑道頭外墜毀,兩員不幸殉職。晏仲華中校追晉上校,于鴻勛上尉追晉少校。

據說F-104為了確保左右邊襟翼放下的角度相同,所以襟翼驅動機構只驅動一邊的襟翼,並且以一根驅動軟管去驅動另一邊的襟翼。F-104起落時都要放下襟翼,驅動軟管就必須要轉動,而且還是在彎曲的狀態下轉動,某些部分就容易磨損。4102號機墜機的原因研判是驅動軟管斷裂,使得左右襟翼放下角度不同步,導致左右機翼升力差異,飛機就向升力較小的那一側側翻,再加上降落時已經位在低空,飛行員根本沒有足夠的時間反應。

美軍其實已經發現驅動軟管的潛在危險,所以發出修改技令(TOC),但是一層一層通知下來,送到清泉崗基地時已經是失事後一天。有人說這個技令是因為週末而延遲送達,但我查了萬年曆,民國50年5月5日是星期五,所以如果技令送達是被週末延誤,那應該是前一個週末,但無論原因如何,兩條寶貴的生命就這樣逝去,留給家人無限的傷痛。

1998.5.8.國軍F-104戰機最後飛行

 

民國87年(1998)5月8日上午9時,新竹基地,中華民國空軍近代最傳奇的機種執行最後一次飛行任務。本人很榮幸獲邀進入新竹基地記錄這歷史性的一刻。轉眼F么洞肆走入歷史已經25週年,我也從一個青年變成中年大叔了。

2008.7.29. F-104G 4420近況

 






我的美國同事回到Portland休假,我跟她說Portland Hillsboro機場旁邊的Classic Aircraft Aviation Museum有一架來自台灣的飛機,她說她會帶孫子去看,回來後她給我這三張照片。

目前這架F-104G的擁有者是個美國空軍退役飛行員,靠著出租私人商業飛機掙了不少錢,他希望能夠將這架么洞四復飛。

朋友曾問我這架飛機再度飛行的可能性是多少,我說非常小,因為要養一架噴射機已經不便宜,更何況要把一架停飛多年的噴射機復原到可飛狀態,那更是難上加難。但是,如果這架飛機留在台灣,那是永遠不會有機會再度飛翔,除非X董也變成航空迷。當個終極航空迷真是一個奢華的嗜好。

F-104版阿珠與阿花

稍微上了一點年紀以上的人應該還記得阿珠與阿花,沒印象嗎?好,給你一個提示,記不記得高凌風身邊兩個和音的女生,就是她倆讓台灣社會曉得一個新名詞「和音天使」。

今天要八卦的就是F-104除役典禮中其實也有和音天使。當天TF -104G 4186號機緩緩滑進CCK大坪,在眾多來賓面前發出么洞肆最特殊的狼嚎聲。一直到最近我才曉得,原來當天在大坪左側的機堡中,還有另外一架雙座機,機上兩名飛行員謝興邦與萬勝隆就是扮演和音天使的角色,用發動機的聲音來為4186的狼嚎聲助威,轉眼這已經是將近十年前的往事了,How time flies!  

RF-104G 4392與5663墜毀事故的更正

研究航空歷史當然要力求真實,但是受限於種種因素,難免會有一些錯誤的紀錄。當初在寫F-104書籍時,因為並不認識43925663墜毀事故的當事人,所以只聽其他人的描述就寫了這一段,最近才有機會在一個喜宴上遇到當事人之一的謝興邦,跟他求證後才發現,我寫的和事實有些出入。

當初聽人描述,謝興邦飛的5663是被長機4392彈射的翼尖油箱「擊落」,這聽起來是蠻聳動的,是個好故事題材,但卻不是事實。謝說當天沒注意到溫度變化超過10度,發動機在低空無法提供足夠的推力,所以謝就跟著長機機腹著陸了。

落地之後,謝興邦還拉了阻力傘,結果阻力傘變成「一坨」出去,根本沒張開。後來他發現長機的翼尖油箱脫落並向他滾了過來,他馬上右舵一蹬,飛機就向右偏出跑道,跑到草地上了。當時飛機才升空沒有多久,機內還有蠻多燃油,所幸兩架飛機都沒有起火爆炸,算是不幸中的大幸。

這次事件的長機裝了假鼻錐,可能是忘了必須再加10浬的操作速度才導致升力不足。至於這個操作修正則是由SR-71的試飛員Robert J. Gilliland在台灣試飛出來的數據,據說他老兄應邀來台時還帶女友一同來,而且有教官說這個女友是個電視明星,演過太空仙女戀(I Dream of Jeannie)影集,如果這個陳述為真,那麼這位女友就是Barbara Eden,我小時候還看過這部影集呢,它是講一個太空人撿到一個瓶子,裡面住著一位仙女,就跟著他在一起生活了。SR-71由於飛行高度極高,所以飛行衣幾乎就和太空人一樣,也許這可算是個有趣的巧合吧! 

F-104G 4373失事經過
