F-104G 4373失事經過

我在寫F-104書時,還不曉得4373號機的詳細下落,只知道是在1988年8月19日全毀,後來經由吳慶璋教官伉儷的報導,才曉得失事經過,文章請見:

F-104G 4348 陳列於一指部


 

 









這架F-104G 陳列在屏東基地的一指部內,塗裝為1960年代中期的灰色,機身上還有buzz number。有關buzz number(防低飛號碼)的介紹請見 https://rocaviation.blogspot.com/2023/07/f-104buzz-number.html

航空史謎團: F-104C 4239號機之謎

  

民國49年(1960年)10月號中國的空軍雜誌(249期)刊出了一張國軍塗裝的F-104,機號是4239,由於國軍並未使用過這個機號,而且機尾的美軍序號看來是一架F-104C (56-0899),國軍也未使用過F-104C,所以這張照片就成為一個航空迷眼中的謎團。

照片刊出時,空軍第8中隊正在接收F-104A,機號是4201到4222,當時一個中隊的F-104A編制是22架。後來美軍隔了數年之後再度軍援一個中隊的F-104A,由新竹基地的第41中隊接收,機號是4241到4262,所以從4223到4240這18個號碼是空號,4239正是落在這個區域之中。

有人說這張照片是變照過的,但是60多年前沒有Photoshop,只能靠暗房技巧來變造,以本人大學時學過暗房的經驗,這張照片看起來不像有變造的痕跡。如果真的是暗房變造,只能說這個技術實在太神奇了。

我原先的假設是美軍本來第二個軍援的F-104中隊是比F-104A更先進的F-104C,機號預計是4223到4244,但後來決定軍援更為先進的F-104G,機號改成從4301開始。數年後美國又決定再給予一個中隊的F-104A時,承辦的人員就沒有從4223開始編起,而是從4241開始。

這張照片中,電源車及氣源車都連結在飛機上,所以看來這架飛機已經是可飛行狀態,也許是在美國或台灣某地改成國軍塗裝後試飛。根據網路資料,56-0899 w/o 6 Feb 1963 in crash landing at Moron AFB, Spain

2023.7.2. 更新

後來我找到這份美軍解密文件,裡面提到1961年12月底為止,預計軍援我國的26架F-104當中,只運交16架,扣除同一份文件中提到前一年已運交的4架F-104B雙座機,F-104A單座機只有12架,只佔滿編22架的一半多一點,所以在1960年10月時單座機的數量只會更少,也就是這張照片刊出的時間,所以我又有了新的推論,這一架F-104C很可能只是美軍暫時借給我國做為F-104訓練之用,沒多久就還給美軍。

同樣的作法在後來國軍換裝F-5E時也發生過,美軍也是借了幾架F-5E來給台南基地使用,漆成國軍塗裝。另外這份文件裡面有一個錯誤,第二個F-104B不是只有B型,還包含A型。

中國的空軍雜誌是空軍的官方雜誌,多年以來都是向各個基地徵求照片來刊登,所以當年CCK的某人拍到這張照片就上繳,沒注意到這是奇怪的號碼,尤其在當年保密防諜的年代,更是不會鼓勵個人去研究機號,沒想到就留下一個線索。後來中國的空軍雜誌也是有刊出美軍借給我國的F-5E照片,只有我們這種研究飛機號碼的阿宅才會發現。

國軍F-104的總架數

在此向讀者致歉,當年出書時將國軍接收F-104的總架數計算錯誤,總架數應該是247架。以下是用機號來計算:

F-104運交進度













忘了是哪位朋友給的美國解密文件寫著,在1960年10月最後一週,4架計畫中要運交的F-104B雙座機都已運交,所以這應該是CCK基地3大隊8中隊的4101到4104。再來寫著到1961年12月31日,所有計畫中的26架飛機已經運交16架,扣除上面4架雙座機,這代表單座機已經運交12架。按照常理推斷,那就是4201到4212已經運到。

當時美國計畫的編制看來一個F-104中隊共有22架單座機,所以後來第二個接收的F-104A中隊(41中隊)也是編制22架單座機,亦即4241到4262。

P.80  4193  planned to be displayed in Chichi. But the town suffered huge damage in the big earthquake in 1999. So the fate of 4193 is unknown.  4195 Instructional airframe at Chunghua Technique College in Henshan, Hsinchu.

P.84  4208 1963/12/18 midair explosion near Hsinchu. Fan Huan-ron killed.  4209 to Royal Jordan AF, 1971/12/2 attempted to attack the King in a helicopter. Shot down by another F-104A. Pilot ejected and arrested.     

P.85  4210 to Royal Jordan AF, 1974/7/16 crashed.  4211 1963/11/7 caught fire in midair, Maj. Louis Lee forcelanded safely at Tainan AFB, to Royal Jordan AF, 1977 retired, decoy at H5.  4212 1964/10/10 hit a radio aerial in the National Day parade, safely back to CCK.

P.118  4350 1982/11/11 crashed in Nantou, Chao Tse-chun ejected, killed by chute string around his neck.  4351 1973/6/16  crashed in landing to CCK, Li Da-ming ejected. First pilot benefited from the new deploy gun installed in C-2 ejection seat. Caption: 47777 in Canada, it later became 4351.

P.119  4352 Stalled in landing, Ma Lung-guan ejected at 35 ft. around 1971.  4353 1967/1/13 missing in the return flight after the air battle, Maj. Yan Jing-chun killed.  4354 1975/7/21 crashed at CCK, later became armament loading training machine.

P.120  4355 1968/7/22 aborted T/O by Tsai Guan-lun, US advisor suggested to w/o, but the 1 st Depot still managed to repair it. It was test flown on 1972/1/26 by Wang Tsao. 1974/10/20 crashed in Daya, Taichung, Pei Tser-kuen ejected.  4356 1982/3/30 crashed, Li Yuan-fu ejected.  4357 1969/5/9 crashed, Huang Guo-ping ejected. 

P.121  4358 1972/7/25 wrong airspeed indication, aborted T/O, crashed into 3 sections and burned, Tsai Guan-lun seriously injured.  4359 1983/6/26 crashed into a can factory in Dajia, Taichung, causing 2 dead & 3 injured, pilot Hu Tsung-chun ejected.  

P.122  4360 1971/5/15 disintegrated in ACM with F-5, Wang Fa-shuen killed. His brother, Wang Ji-yao, was killed in F-104A 4203.  4361 1976/2/11 flameout and crashed, Liang Ching-ping ejected.

P.161  F-104A: the SEA camouflage was introduced with the 2 nd batch of F-104A. F-104D: in order to increase the visibility for two-seater trainers, the tip tanks were painted in fluorescence red.  TF-104G: RoCAF followed the USAF to replace the SEA camouflage with the air superiority gray scheme. In the beginning it is one-tone gray, later appears the two-tone gray. The area of antiglare was smaller.   

P.162  F-104B: in the early days, the F-104s were in their original bare metal scheme.  F-104A: the first batch of F-104A were in bare metal scheme. In late period, a deformed insignia of 8 th TFS was painted in the fin.  F-104G: the bare metal scheme of G model was later replaced with ADC gray scheme, but the tailpipe was still unpainted. 4347 claimed one MiG-17 on Jan.13,1967. A red star was painted under the windshield.   

P.163  RF-104G: the type was introduced with the bare metal scheme. The F-104G and RF-104G have a deice equipment in black in the front of intake.  RF-104G: the paint scheme of the RF changed to ADC gray, then to SEA camouflage. The camera changed to KS-125 system, so the windows reduced from 3 to 1.  RF-104G: The air superiority gray scheme was also applied to RF. In order to carry the LOROP camera, the TACAN aerial was moved backward.     

P.166  4197 carried TDU-11/B target towing equipment.  The ex Luftwaffe F-104 were painted in SEA camouflage in the beginning, then changed to air superiority gray scheme.

P.167  The ex Luftwaffe F-104 was introduced under the Project Ali Mountain No. 8. In the beginning they used Red Dog Launcher in wingtip, but the underwing tank will reduce the maneuverability, so the missiles were carried under belly later. (center) the group insignia was painted in late service period. (bottom) The ex RDAF F-104 was introduced under the Project Ali Mountain No. 10. The radar had some differences with the previous one.

This one became 4368.  RDAF R-348 later became 4415.  F-104DJ 017 of JASDF became 4595.  The Belgium F/TF-104G were introduced only for spare parts.  10 F-104 relics were found at a scrap yard in Tainan in 1993. The nearest F-104J was unable to identify. The crew’s name MORI & MORIYA could be found on fuselage.
